DESCRIPTION:Date: Saturday 7th of September\n\nTime: 5.45 pm\n\nPlace: Yalukit Willam Nature Reserve (formally known as Elsternwick Park Nature Reserve)\nMeet at the YWNA shed\, near Elwood bowls club. Parking available inside the gates.\nhttps://maps.app.goo.gl/FPVfoNz6HhEG8yvn6\n\nFly by Night Survey Aims:\n\n\nTo create a baseline survey of nocturnal invertebrates and other fauna for comparison in longitudinal studies as changes and improvements are made in the reserve.\nTo gauge the health of the reserve by the number of species and variation of invertebrates and nocturnal fauna.\n\n\nHow:\n\n\nWe will monitor and record a variety of invertebrate species using specialist equipment – multispectrum lamps and moth sheets.\nSpecies will be photographed and images uploaded onto our iNaturalist project to generate data that will also contribute to citizen science. Please sign up to the iNaturalist app to upload your photographs so we can log our observations for our ongoing biodiversity monitoring www.inaturalist.org And please join our project here: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/yalukit-willam-reserve-targeted-project\nThere will be 5 stations in distinct areas of YWNR with an opportunity for movement between stations to observe the different invertebrate species across the reserve.\nIf uploading your photographs to iNaturalist from a camera without GPS location\, the approximate coordinates for the stations are: Station one – Lat: -37.885608 Lon: 144.995728\, Station two – Lat: -37.886782 Lon: 144.993340\, Station three – Lat: -37.887019 Lon: 144.995464\, Station four – Lat: -37.887867 Lon: 144.993578. We will let you know the numbers of the stations that are set up.\nSmall groups will conduct surveys across other areas of the reserve to identify additional nocturnal fauna such as possums\, bats\, frogs and fish.\nSurvey time for the invertebrate stations will be approximately 3hrs if the conditions are favorable.\n\n\nBring:\n\n\nWarm clothes (loose long sleeves\, long pants)\nClosed toes shoes\nSnacks and water/thermos\nPicnic rug or chair\nCamera/phone with fully charged battery\nTorch or head lamp\nInsect repellent – in case there are mozzies about\n\nThe dates and times for the 2024/25 season are:\n7th September – 5.45 pm\n5th October – 6.15 pm\n2nd November – 7.45 pm\n7th December – 8.15 pm\n4th January – 8.30 pm\n1st February – 8.15 pm\n1st March – 7.45 pm\n29th March – 7.00 pm\n26th April – 5.15 pm\n24th May – 5.00 pm \n\nWe hope you can join us!
